The People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) KJ-600 is an early warning and control (AEW&C) airplane developed to serve onboard new generation aircraft carriers. The KJ-600 airborne radar system has been designed to detect and track the United States of America F-35 and F-22 fifth generation stealth jets. No information is available about the new radar system but most likely will be dual-band radar with Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) technology. China announced the development of the new KJ-600 aircraft in early 2018 with the aim to get the new platform in active service in the 2020-2025 timeframe when the PLAN is expected to operate 2-3 aircraft carriers. The KJ-600 is expected to provide similar performance compared with the latest version of the US Navy's E-2 aircraft. The KJ-600 performed its maiden flight in August 2020 and may enter service in 2022 or 2023.
